As far as outsider art goes, it’s very difficult out outre P-Orridge.

I am hardly an expert on their (they identify as third gender and use them/their pronouns) life and work.

What I know is that if you haven’t you should absolutely know Throbbing Gristle’s 20 Jazz Funk Greats. (I can’t stomach much else TG did & Psychic TV totters on the brink of intolerable.)

All that being said: they were hugely influential to artists who have had a lasting impact on me.

I am not familiar enough with all the ins and outs of their life to really comment with any kind of definite hot take. They were impossibly controversial–in word, deed and thought.

At present they are being treated for Leukemia–it’s not looking good the last I heard. (Cancer fucking sucks.) If their work meant anything to you, you might want to consider support their GoFundMe for treatment. (How in the fuck did we get to this place in history where people have to crowd source their medical treatment…)

I’m not sure this piece is qualitatively ‘good’ but it gets me super hot and bothered.

I think what resonates with me is that cunnilingus is bar none my favorite behavior on the sexual spectrum. The sight, feel, sounds and dear lord the taste are things I absolutely crave.

So while I hardcore relate to this image being solidest around the glaze sheen around submissive’s nose and mouth–mirroring the way in the moment of licking, sucking and penetrating perception can winnow down to just mouth and genitals; there’s also the way that the dominant woman is rendered in a vague archetypal fashion which undermines the specificity of the submissive’s hunger.

The way the legs muss the submissive’s hair seems thoughtful until you look again and see that it’s flat and relatively forced. All the legs are is a graded wash tying the frame together with the painstakingly rendered vulva.

I feel like–depiction-wise–this minimal approach actually has (whether knowingly or not) quite a bit in-line with Georgia O’Keeffe–if O’Keeffe had opted for a lazier, less rigorous approach to her visual experimentation.

I have no idea where this is from and that’s sad because there is so, so much to love about it.

The initial overhead shot establishes a sort of dreamlike space. We’re watching a surgery being performed. Not how there’s a ‘nurse’ stroking the patients hair and that same stroke shifts with the cut in the second frame to a sort of fever dream where instead of a surgical procedure there’s a scene where the patient is being sexual stimulated. It’s disquieting; but the oneiric feel is carried over by the comforting hand shifting to more carnal caresses and the scene plays out like a twisted mix between a fever dream and anesthetic hallucination.

It strikes me that the feeling this imparts is what Inside Flesh is asymptotally approaching–never quite arriving because they get so caught up in the aesthetic element of their nightmarish perversions. This certain lacks the expansive production design but it embraces it’s lo-fi limitations and pulls together something that is compelling and uncomfortably arousing.
